  • Global Game Jam, 2017 has come to an end, and we at Africgames are proud to be a part of it.

    For some years lately, January has been the month to celebrate Game development worldwide through the Global Game Jam. Global Game jam is the biggest game hackathon event in the world where game developers come together for 48 hours to create games based on a Theme released by the Global game jam organization. This year, Over 36,000 jammers in 702 physical sites across 95 countries created over 7,000 games, breaking all of last year's jam records and becoming the newly-crowned Biggest Game Jam Ever with Center4tech being part of this ground breaking achievement.

    In Lagos Nigeria, Center4tech hosted the Biggest Jam, with over 58 jammers creating six games . This years’s game jam at center4tech had in attendance several industry professionals ( Animators, Graphic Artists ,sound engineers to software developer, game developers), Students from Nigerian tertiary institutions like Babcock University, Unilag , YabaTech , Osun state Polytechnic and Hardcore gamers.

    A two day workshop preceded the event, introducing newbies to the art of Game making and spice them up for the event. Certified Game developers, Ayinla seye, Animashaun Morenikeji and Olotu Tomisin handled the training, leading attendees through making a puzzle game and Flappy bird game using Unity 3D engine.

    The main event was graced with the presence of Google Nigeria, Access Bank, and several Game companies in Nigeria , Maliyo games, Makers of Aboki Run , Black ring studios makers of Throne of Gods ). Jammers formed teams, and developed games based on the Theme for the year 2017 “WAVES”. The unveiling of the theme initiated the 48 hours countdown with creative thinking, Designing, modelling and serious coding .

    Finally,what’s a jam filled with jammers without fun –filled gaming? There was hard core gaming during recess hours on PS4, PS3, PS2 and Xbox platform. The Global Game was a huge success. If you missed this year’s edition, be sure to book a seat for next year.
